mrc ofid visit1Multi Dimensional Resource Centre Nepal (MRC Nepal) under the financial support of OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) had implemented a project entitled "Efficient Land Management for Socio-economic Enhancement in Southern Nepal" from April, 2012 to May, 2014 in three districts (Bara, Makwanpur and Chitwan) of central Nepal. The main objectives of this project was to increase the area under cultivation by utilizing marginal and unutilized flood affected land and to enhance rural livelihood through the promotion of appropriate farming technology.

Best earning on my own farm land said by Pramila Devi Paswan

26Mrs. Pramila Devi Paswan, aged 34, Haraiya -6, Milanchok, Bara, Nepal was facing daily problems to sustain her 10 dependent member's family, without education and quality health, only from the earning of her traditional farming and husbands' driving occupation. Previously, she had cultivated rice and maize in their respective season, without vegetables, besides keeping the land fallow rest of the time. She was enforced to do daily wages on others' landlord field to meet her family's demand.

22Bikramiya Chaudary, 45 years old, is a pro poor farmer of Chitwan district of Nepal. Her family is food sufficiency below six months from their own production. For remaining months and for other expenses they are compelled to go to landlord or outside the village in search for daily wages. She was involved in the group under the program “Efficient Land Management for Socio-economic Enhancement in Southern Nepal” implemented by MRC Nepal in the financial assistance of OPEC/OFID.

Local Liquor making drum is converted into Geetimal making drum to produce organic vegetable in Gairibari, Chitwan

15A 44 years Mrs. Nau Maya Gurung belong to the poor peasant Gurung ethnic group (disadvantaged and Janjati) in habitant of Gairibari, Shaktikhor-4, Chitwan have had no vegetable farming before. Since, May 2012 she has been involving in a vegetable model farm promoted by GIZ/STPP/MRC Nepal. Since then in the early month she planted in about 500m2 area of green vegetables Okra, cucumber, bottle gourd, tomato and bitter gourd. Within 3 months, she started harvesting the tender fruit to satisfy her kitchen requirement and continued harvesting up to November and able to earn worth NPRs.22, 000. She again scaled up the vegetable growing areas of about 3 kattha(1000m2) with tomato, chilly and cabbage.
